I have seen Yes Man! Jim Carrey Film…was I close?

Well I finally went to see the film, actually my wife took me!  Anyway I am very glad she did.

So what’s it all about?  Well I can’t go into the detail as you might go and see it but I can say a few words about the message of the film.  If you did not get a chance to see my last article on this take a look at it here.

This film has a wonderful message attached to it.  The main character (Jim Carrey) is a pretty negative person, he has a habit of saying “no” to everything.  Since he always says no his life is dull and boring.  He ends up going to a seminar (which is a funny scene) that is about empowering your life by saying “Yes” to everything……you can already imagine the things that happen!

So at some point in the film saying yes to everything starts to have the opposite effect, it starts to cause him more problems than solutions.  And this is really what I want to talk about, why saying yes more is a good idea but only if you really mean it and feel it in your heart.

I talked about this in the first post but essentially we would all have a better more positive life if everyone said yes a little bit more.  Imagine a friend asking for some of your time or a neighbour needing some help with the garden.  However I also think that in order for this to really work you have to really WANT to help and say yes.  It will only do good if it’s something you really want to do.

Doing things to help others because you REALLY want to is incredibly powerful, it gives you a postive power of emotion.  It gives you an huge feeling of satisfaction knowing you have done something for another person and you don’t expect anything back.

Now I know most people reading this will have experienced that at least once.  We have all done something for someone and know what that feeling is like.  I would also say that we could probably all do it a little bit more?!

And that’s really why I think the message in this film is excellent.  It is essentially saying that by being more positive and open to life’s experiences you will have a much greater, fulfilled life.

Give it a go.  Next time someone asks for your help and you know you won’t get anything in return….say YES!
